Mechanical engineering interview questions with answers which are asked by HR and in technical rounds.
11) What is compressive stress?
Ans) The stress induced in a body, when subjected to two equal and opposite pushes as a result of which there is a decrease in the length of the body, is known as compressive stress.
12) What is shear stress?
Ans) The stress induced in a body when subjected to two equal and opposite forces which are acting tangentially across the resisting section as a result of which the body tends to shear off across the section, is known as shear stress.
13) What is the formula for shear stress?
Ans) Shear stress = (shear resistance R / shear area A)
14) What is an elastic body?
Ans) When an external force acts on a body, the body tends to undergo some deformation. If the external force is removed and the body comes back to its original shape & size, the body is known as elastic body.
15) What is elasticity?
Ans) The property by virtue of which certain material return back to their original position after the removal of the external force, is called elasticity.
16) What is hooke's law?
Ans) Hooke's law states that when a material is loaded within elastic limit, the stress is proportional to the strain produced by the stress.
17) What is modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity or elastic modulii?
Ans) The ratio of stress to the corresponding strain is a constant within the elastic limit. This constant is known as modulus of elasticity or modulus of rigidity or elastic modulii.
